Merry Nebeker and I are looking forward to heading out to the Eitlejorg Museum for their Quest for the West art show. It is one of our favorite trips we take each year. The people involved with putting on the show & those who attend are so welcoming. It is a great show & terrific place to get to visit with many artist friends. I will be showing 4 sculptures. My newest bronze is; RUNNIN THE TRAP LINE. My depiction of the mountain man gathering beaver pelts from his traps, trekking through the heavy drifts in snowshoes. I hadnt sculptured this subject matter for years, but mountain men were the very first subject I cast in bronze 46 years ago. The 2nd sculpture is one of my typical depictions of a working cowboy; RIMROCK RESCUE, as he & his horse are climbing out of a rocky canyon carrying a small calf over his saddle, saving it from the long journey. The 3rd bronze was exciting for me to research & create. It is an action filled piece of a Southern Cheyenne racing on his horse to get the best shot during the SEASON OF THE BUFFALO. Then the 4th sculpture I sent for the Quest for the West is another of my traditional contemporary cowboys. The title, RIDIN FOR THE BRAND, tells the important story of how cowboys and ranchers feel about their lifes work. It includes loyalty, dedication to the boss & the outfits brand, and living out the cowboy ethic of doing an honest days work for a days wage. I hope to see many of my collectors and friends in Indiana at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art the weekend of Sept. 5th-7th, 2014.
