Mertersacker Announces His Retirement From International Games !! 10 years in the national team, 5 big tournaments, 104 international matches and finishing it with the World Cup trophy. Wow, if somebody would have told me before. The last weeks I have thought a lot, digested emotions and thoughts and spoke to people in my close environment. All resulting in my decision to step aside and finish my national team career. With the trophy in Brazil my national team career found an incredible highlight. The victory parade in Berlin was simply amazing and my biggest thanks goes to you, the fans of the German national team. Looking forward my full focus is now on Arsenal FC and the targets we have in mind for the next years. And given my age some freshness will not do bad here.
