Romans 5:12-14, Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adams transgression, who is the figure of Him that was to come. One man sinned and as a result of that everyone born into this world is a sinner and doomed for destruction. However, God, not wanting us to be destroyed, sent His only begotten Son to die for us. And according to John 3:16, anyone that believes in Jesus will not perish but have everlasting life. By the grace of God many of us have accepted Jesus, the only way by which we can have a relationship with God and ultimately escape going to hell for eternity. Now, according to 2nd Corinthians 5:17, anyone who gets into Christ becomes a new creature; old things pass away, and all things become new. Among the old things that are supposed to pass away are our old ways of thinking, acting and reacting. The works of the flesh listed in Galatians 5:19-21 are supposed to come to an end. The things that God considers to be abomination, listed in Proverbs 6:16-19 are also expected to pass away. And so are the evil things recorded in 1st Peter 2:1 and Romans 1:29-31. A picture of the regenerated life is painted in Galatians 5:22-26, But the fruit that the Spirit produces in a person’s life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these kinds of things. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their sinful self. They have given up their old selfish feelings and the evil things they wanted to do. We get our new life from the Spirit, so we should follow the Spirit. We must not feel proud and boast about ourselves. We must not cause trouble for each other or be jealous of each other (Easy-to-Read Version). The works of the flesh should not be found in us as children of God. Rather, we are expected to live a life of righteousness with the help and support of the Holy Spirit. However, the reality in the lives of many Christians is the opposite of Gods expectation of His people. Now, there are two categories of sinful Christians. The first category is made up of those who sin willfully. After all, God is merciful, kind and compassionate and the Bible says that if we confess our sin He is faithful and just to forgive us. Such people seem to forget Romans 6:1-4, What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. The second category of sinful Christians consists of those who do not wish to live in sin; those who want to live right but find themselves falling into sin over and over again. The life of such Christians reflects Pauls frustration expressed in Romans 7:19 and 24, I don’t do the good that I want to do. I do the evil that I don’t want to do, What a miserable person I am! Who will save me from this body that brings me death? The reason why any Christian would live in sin whether willfully or unwillingly is found in 1st Chronicles 21:1, Satan wanted to bring trouble on the people of Israel, so he made David decide to take a census” (Good News Translation). Satan, knowing that no unholy person can spend eternity in heaven, and desiring to ensure that as many as possible end up in hell, does whatever he can to encourage, push, incite Christians to sin against God. And Satan has his helpers - demons, contrary spirits and fellow human beings. The Psalmist said in Psalm 68:1, Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered: let them also that hate Him flee before Him. Now, we usually quote this scripture because we want God to arise and deal with the demons behind sicknesses and diseases, joblessness, financial problems, delay in marriage, childlessness, marital problems, etc. But how many Christians cry to God to arise against the demon behind pride, unforgiveness, malice, insubordination to husband, prayerlessness, bitterness, lying, gossiping, etc.? We need to stop invoking Gods power, Word, might, wisdom, love, etc. to get for us only things that are valuable for now. We should be much more concerned about taking advantage of everything God has put at our disposal to ensure that we end up in the right place for eternity. Do not focus only on God arising to help you with things that will end here. Shout out to Him concerning those things about you that do not glorify Him. Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” buildingfortheking
