Message from Senior Mens Head Coach Greg Hill. With the commencement of the pre-season in August, we wanted to inform you of the strategy and training that the Coaching panel has in place for the season 2014-2015. Firstly welcome to Mark Wasley who is joining us as a part of the Coaching team, Mark brings a wealth of experience, one from having represented Western Australia and Tasmania, and two is well known in the Rockingham Peel region. Mark is passionate and committed to developing a pool of bowlers who will provide us with talent, depth and skill. Mark will be conducting training for the bowlers commencing Thursday 17th July, this is month prior to the first official indoor training session on Friday 15th August 2014. This is Mark’s drive and to be available to assist the bowlers prepare for the pre-season. An email to all players will be sent from the Club and also placed on facebook. Before we start with the pre - season training schedule, it is paramount you know and understand what we all are attempting to achieve, including the commitment that is required from you. Looking from a statistic point of view, the club finished 13th out of 16 teams in the Club Championship. First Grade finishing in 11th position, with Third grade being the highest of the Club, finishing in 9th. This gives us all a base point to start, we can break it down any way we choose, but statistics show us the history, you all hold the future. Listed below is an outline of the belief structure we will be using and how we will be communicating throughout the season, there is no hidden agenda, every player, committee member and supporter will have access. Vision - To compete to the last ball, to push yourself beyond your skill level, to respect your club and all of its players and to take responsibility for your work ethic. Goal Setting - Outcome goals, to focus on an end result. Set realistic goals based on your past performance and re-assess during the season. Players - Know your role within the team, be prepared, no excuses. Coaching/Training will be Skills based, there are fitness expectations based on where you should be playing (1st-4th) grade player). The components of training sessions will be outlined to the club and players prior to each session. Team/Club Ethics - What is acceptable and not acceptable. Leadership - The Leadership group to set boundaries, create the training/dressing room environment. Selection - The Selection Committee to outline selection criteria, emphasis on current performance as the cornerstone for selection. Match Day - Team preparation, Team strategy, Team Assessment, After match commitment. Coaching philosophy Focus on a belief in yourself and respect in each other, not one person or one team defines a club. Playing wise, “one in all in” You have discipline or you have an excuse. Learning to trust your technique at the level you play takes commitment. Without knowing your own game how could you expect to contribute successfully to a club. As a player we all have a natural tendency to play a particular way, aggressive to shell like and anything in between, and not one is better than the other. Who has mental toughness? everyone has it, anyone can harness it, but when pressure is placed on you, if you don’t believe in yourself or the team strategy, look out. The old saying is “Everyone cracks under pressure, just make sure you are the last to break” The game is competitive, between the ropes and the wickets, the opposition are not our friends, and we should be ready for that. Off the field there are lifelong friendships to be had.
