Message from the Pacific for use by MAMs : Today, STOP OGM Pacifique is supporting you from across the Pacific seas in New Caledonia, to give our total support to those leading and participating in the Marches Against Monsanto in Australia. We are very concerned with Australia’s current research into GMO wheat that was claimed to be available next year. GMO wheat is not only risky to our health, but poses threats to the biodiversity, livelihood, and food sovereignty in Australia and abroad. We urge concerned citizens in Australia to call on the government to revoke the current GM wheat trial approvals and implement policies to protect Australia’s wheat. We too, have NO APPETITE for GMO wheat ! Here in New Caledonia we have been fighting for more than 3 years to obtain a regulation on GMOs ... and yes, we got it! At least for the ban on imported GMO seeds, the government has yet to implement a mandatory labeling system on all GMO food products. It is essential to protect the cultural heritage and agricultural biodiversity that enrich our Pacific Islands. We must continue to say NO to Monsanto and those who poison our earth, let this march today be our trumpet call... Together we march today for a better future for our earth and our families.
