Message to the members from Neil Craig Dear member, While we are disappointed with the result against Sydney at the SCG on Friday night the match was another great learning experience for our team. We need to recognise the pressure that the Swans were able to put on, and around the ball – pressure that was able to stifle our ball movement when trying to go forward. The first quarter was very costly; a similar pattern we had earlier in the year when we lost to the Swans in round 9. It is a good but tough lesson to learn. When playing the top sides we must be ready to perform from the first bounce – no easing into the game. We need to match and endure the pressure that big games demand. Once the pace of the game eased after half time I thought we played a lot better. We also had a slightly different structure up forward, which also helped us in the second half. The one individual standout from the match was the performance of Michael Hurley. It was a great game of growth for Michael and his development as a footballer within our club. We are now fully focused on the game in front of us against Richmond at the MCG under the Friday night lights. Five weeks ago people would have said we should beat Richmond but they have now become a serious hurdle for us to jump. They are in good, consistent winning form. Richmond will have an ambition to stop us from going where we want to go; they will want to continue their winning run. It is at the MCG so they will remember the last time we played them when we were outstanding and they were really poor. We are facing a side in really good form with a likely crowd of over 70,000 fans with plenty riding on the match. It is once again another fantastic opportunity and experience for our football club and we look forward to seeing you there. Go Bombers!
