Met Office: Yellow warning of wind BE AWARE Valid from 00:05 on Monday until 12:00 on Monday Strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain, will move eastwards across the UK on Monday: Gales or even severe gales are likely around exposed coasts and high ground in the west and north on Monday morning. The public should be aware of the potential for travel disruption from the strong winds as well as standing water on the roads and reduced visibility from spray and driving rain. This is an update to the warning first issued on Saturday, to take the area at risk further west across Northern Ireland. Chief Forecasters assessment: An area of low pressure will develop just to the northwest of Ireland on Sunday night as warm air from the south and cold air from the north come together. As this develops winds will increase leading to gusts of 60-70 mph around exposed coasts and hills of Wales, northwest England, parts of Northern Ireland (especially the east) and western and northern parts of Scotland. Gusts of 50-60 mph are also expected in the southwest of England. As the system moves eastwards across the UK on Monday the winds will ease away though a further pulse of 60-70 mph gusts is possible over the northeast of Scotland. Given the very strong winds, relatively early seasonal occurrence and their coincidence with Mondays rush hour some disruption to travel is likely.
