Met by sounds of helicopters and packs of police. Venturing to a silent vigil to show solidarity. To pay respects to another black son taken from his mother, his family, his community, just for being, existing, walking, Black. Seeing the absolute beauty in the diversity of the crowd. Feeling the intense energy of the silence. Feeling hints of dispute and discord. Hearing words of anger, hurt, pain, calls for action. Organize. Speak, Be heard, Be clear, what is our focus? How can we make a difference? Being distracted by those with their own agendas. Feeling frustration in the lack of organization, unity, recognition of the real issues. Loving people, but hating politics. Knowing that it takes a unified movement to make a difference. A national moment of silence in Oakland, is more like a deafening cry. People are tired. Weve been here before. On the same steps. Standing for our young martyrs. Murdered by those who have no connection to the communities that they patrol, like packs of vicious wolves, preying on our young. Dashing dreams. Smothering hope. When will it end? Taking the energy from the rally into my daily life. Remembering the words, the faces, the dialogue, the discontent, the talk of solutions. knowing it wont be solved overnight and that the struggle is long. Just wanting to make a difference. Dont shoot! Hands up!
