MetroNews Morning News Headlines: A former Chief of Staff at Marshall University says Marshall University President Stephen Kopp, who died from a heart attack Wednesday, loved the Mountain State. Matt Turner, who now works with the Higher Education Policy Commission, says Kopp had NO ties to West Virginia before being hired at Marshall in 2005, but says Kopp always joked, we got here as fast as we could. More information could be released later today about funeral arrangements for Kopp who was 63. A trial date is set for February for the Kanawha County man whos charged with gunning down a drug informant in July to keep her from talking to police. On Thursday Marlon Ice Dixon, 38, of Charleston, plead NOT GUILTY to a list of federal charges -- including murder for the death of Branda Basham and heroin distribution. If convicted, Dixon could face the death penalty. A Jefferson County man is charged with intimidation of a public official. Investigators say the Millville man made a threat on Facebook by posting pictures of an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and her family members. Its Graduation Day at West Virginia University where a Commencement Ceremony for December grads is set for this afternoon at WVUs Coliseum. Dr. Jennifer Knight, a professor and associate trauma director at the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center, will speak to those graduates. In all, 1,627 students have completed undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees at WVU this month. A Charleston Fireman is hailed as a hero this morning after he pulled a bedridden elderly woman from her burning house overnight. THe fire crews arrived to a burning hom on Second Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Fireman Wes Runyan was the first one off the truck and learned of the woman from her sons who were there. He bolted into the home, found the woman lying in the floor of her bedroom, and carried her out. Shes hospitalized, but injuries were not serious and shes expecedd to recvoer. Authorities say no word on a cause for the fire.
