Metz Racing Short Trackin’ it at Borgers Metz Racing headed to Borgers Speedway this past Saturday for some short track racing in the TQ division. Geoffrey Sutton was back behind the wheel of the 4a with Ken Wismer Jr. in Black Betty, JT Davis took the wheel of the Csernak F8 and Blu Metz raced the Vintage green 37 car with the regular TQs. Austin Fehr won his second race of the season at Borgers in the 73. Next up for the team is a trip to Bethel Speedway with a full complement of cars and drivers. Heat Race action saw JT Davis take the heat win in the F8 with Fehr second and Wismer third. Fourth was Sutton in the 4a with Victor Quinones rolling across the line fifth in the Mike Osite 57 Badger making its outdoor debut with Metz rolling across the line 6th. The feature saw a heated battle between pole sitter Davis and Fehr. Davis got the jump on the start and set the pace for the early portion of the race until Fehr was able to move to the inside and begin a side y side battle for the lead that lasted 6 laps before the short way around gave Fehr the lead for good. Davis rolled across the line second with Wismer third and Sutton fourth. The top three cars all ran sub ten second laps with Sutton flirting with a nine second lap. Metz was a DNS for the feature due to a carburetor malfunction on the Vintage 37 car that will be in competition at Bethel with the Vintage ATQMRA at Bethel this coming Saturday June 22. The cars and stars of the ATQMRA’s glorious past will be at Bethel to put on some vintage car racing in honor of the legendary Jack Duffy. Metz Racing will have the seat filled in all three of its Modern TQs as well for the Bethel race. 2012 Oswego Limited Supermodified Champion Krieg Heroth will make his second start in the Metz Racing F8 that he ran at the Turkey Derby last year. Heroth in addition to the limited Super is also running a limited schedule of Supermodified races in 2013. Heroth is wicked excited to get back behind the wheel of a TQ. Making her second start in Black Betty this season will be ATQMRA Rookie of the year contender Briana Page. Page is moving up from the ranks of the quarter midgets and will surely make her mark in the blindingly fast TQs. The quick pace of the quarter midgets will surely transfer to the tight confines of Bethel’s oval. Making his first TQ midget start in a number of years will be Chris Zrinski. Chris is getting back behind the wheel of a TQ to honor his Godfather Jack Duffy on Saturday. Chris cut his racing teeth in the TQs at Wall Stadium in the early 2000s and spent a number of seasons behind the wheel of an ARDC Midget. The Metz Racing 37 Vintage TQ will undergo a transformation from being a Green 37 back to the Ken Walder colors that were on the car when it won the ATQMRA Championship in 1985 with Mike Osite at the wheel. Osite was at Borgers Saturday with the 57 car that was purchased from the collection of the late Jerry Morese. The 57 car, originally outfitted with a Rotax Snowmobile engine, has since had a Suzuki Motorcycle engine installed by Victor Quinones at It’s Finished in North Carolina for Osite to run select wingless races outdoors and as an indoor car. Quinones made some laps in the 57 working to sort the car out and made progress through the day. Anyone interested in running a Metz Racing TQ Midget with the ATQMRA or at Borgers Speedway should contact Blu Metz at Blu4a@rcn or by phone at 610-217-2593. We still have seats available for the remaining races in 2013 and we are looking to fill the seats for the indoor season as well.
