Chrissy hurried back towards the front of the house and sees her daughter pointing into something. What is it Sofia? Look mommy, the bird. Pointing her finger on a dead bird lying on the sidewalk. Oh Sofia, Its okay. But please... Do not touch it. Let me get a small box so we can bury the bird. She grabs a small shoe box from the recycle container and places the bird inside. Chrissy is a single mother who lives alone with her four-years-old daughter Sofia. Her husband died two years ago from a form of cancer. She was left alone with little money on her savings. She still struggles to make ends meet. Working in a daycare gives her the opportunity to spend time with her daughter. Her mother, Annabelle just lives the next town to hers. Most times Chrissy and her daughter, Sofia visits her. It is now passed noon since they buried the dead bird on the back of their small house. Sofia was really sad at that moment. So, Chrissy decided to take her out for a walk. She notices one of her neighbor is packing up. She stops and asks. Hi Gina, I did not know you were moving. Anything wrong? Hi Chrissy, no we are not moving. We are just getting rid of some stuff that we dont need. Oh okay. Say hi to Frank please? Said Chrissy while waving her hand to Gina. Ok Chrissy. Bye Sofia. Said Gina and waved to both of them. Chrissy and Sofia walks down towards the park and spend time playing in the swing. Afterwards, they sat on a bench near the plaza and ate ice cream. Mommy, when are we going to see Grandma? Asks Sofia. Maybe next week. Would that be okay? I want to visit daddy and bring him flowers. Okay, we will stop by the flower shop tomorrow and visit daddy ok? Said Chrissy while she gently smooths her daughters hair. They walk back to their house and Chrissy notices the sky darkens. As soon as they reach inside their house Chrissy turns on the TV. I want to watch cartoons mommy. Hold on sweetie. Let me see the weather first. Said Chrissy as she watched channel 4 news. Channel 4 News reporter... We are seeing this grayish thick mist evaporating from the ground, and lurking through the air, but we are unsure where its coming from. So far we have not been informed of any effects that this mist may bring. Please stay tuned for any update. Mommy what is that? Asks Sofia staring into the TV. Its nothing Sofia. Its just a mist. It looks scary mommy. Sofia then clings to her mothers arm. Okay why dont you watch your favorite cartoon while I prepare something for dinner. Said Chrissy as she changed the channel to kids network. Sofia then lays down on the on her tummy. Chrissy looks in her refrigerator to see what she can fix for dinner. Its good that she stopped earlier this week to stack up some fresh veggies and fruits. She grabs some carrots and broccoli. Then she goes to the sink to wash them up. While washing she notices that her neighbors were arguing. She could see them from her window. She tried to ignore them by closing the curtains of her window. It was passed five oclock when she finally set up the table for dinner. She called out Sofia, but she did not hear her at all. So she decided to see whats her daughter up to. Sofia... Sofia? Called Chrissy but Sofia was not in the living room. She kept calling Sofia and checked her room, but she was not there also. She peak through the window and notice Sofia standing by the sidewalk. She hurried to go outside. SOFIA! Called out Chrissy. What are you doing outside? Its almost getting dark now. You know you are not allowed to go outside without my permission. Said Chrissy with disappointment. Mommy, someone is staring. Can you see? Sofia pointed to a lady standing along the sidewalk. Sofia do not point fingers to anyone. That is not nice. Said Chrissy while looking at the lady standing. The lady did not move an inch at all, but maybe she was waiting for someone. She never seen her before in this block. Come inside the house. Its time for dinner. Chrissy added. They had a wonderful dinner and ate a piece of apple pie that was given yesterday by their neighbor, Gina. Afterwards Sofia and her played Jenga. Its usually UNO ,but tonight Sofia picked Jenga. Your cheating Sofia. Teased Chrissy to her daughter. Sofia starts to giggle. My fingers too short mommy. I cant grab the other end of the block without using both hands. Well, it is almost eight oclock. Why dont we get ready for bed. Will you read me a story mommy? Sure. Now lets go and brush our teeth. They both brushed their teeth and changed into their pajamas. She read a story to Sofia and realizes both of them fell asleep. It was the loudest thunder that woke up Chrissy. She heard a noice and it looks like it was coming from the living room. So she got up and look around. She sighed. I cant believe I forgot to locked the screen door. The thunder was getting louder and she did not recall any storm forecast at all other than the grayish thick mist. She closed and locked the front door. She decided to turn on the TV and the signal was poor so she decided to turn off the TV. She gets up to close her blind in the living room when she noticed the lady standing close to their sidewalk. She looks at wall clock and its half hour passed twelve. The lady that was standing suddenly turns around. The movement creeps out Chrissy. She decided to shut all the blinds. It started to rain hard that night. She fell back to sleep in her bed that night. The following morning she woke up by the sound of the knocking at her front door. She opens the door and see her neighbor Gina calling for help. G-Gina, whats wrong? Please help me. My husband is asking strange. Says Gina hysterically. Why? What happened? Open the door please. Hes coming. PlEASE! Cried Gina. O-okay. Chrissy opens the door in a hurry. Gina looks so scared and confused. Chrissy could not understand why. She guided Gina to the living room and asks her if she was hurt. Im okay but my son... He locked himself in his room. I have to go back and get him. Gina crying more than before. What is really going on Gina? The mist outside. There is something about the mist. Said Gina pointing through the closed blind.
