Mich. Gov. Snyder: Republican Governors Lead Nations Comeback Great things are happening in states with Republican governors who are balancing budgets, reforming education, pension, tax, and regulatory systems, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said in this weeks GOP address. The Republican governor, who pointed out that his state is also enjoying an economic comeback, said governors are putting policies in place to make our states engines of economic growth, but he said he doesnt want to cast blame on the nations economic problems. Lawmakers should be relentless in solving one problem after the other, Snyder said, and dont waste time on blame. Lets just get the job done. Snyder gave his address from Grand Rapids, Mich., where the 2014 Governors Economic Summit was held to showcase innovation and talent found across his state. Its not government, though, that creates jobs, he said. Small business owners, entrepreneurs, and innovators are the engine of job creation. Its up to government to help create the environment where jobs can grow. Across the nation, state unemployment figures released this week show Republican governors pro-jobs, pro-growth, low-tax policies work, said Snyder, who is running for reelection. In fact, the largest employment gains occurred in states run by Republican governors. Meanwhile, said Snyder, his state tied for the largest jobless rate decline in the country, according to monthly state employment numbers. There is no better example of growth, said Snyder, than in Michigan, which he says ranks first in the United States for recovering the most from the Great Recession and our unemployment rate just hit its lowest point in nearly six years. The state has balanced its budget for the past three years without accounting gimmicks, said Snyder, while eliminating our $1.5 billion structural deficit, passed tax reform and enacted a law to give Michiganders the freedom to work — to choose whether or not to join a union. As a result, since December 2010, Michigans businesses have created more than a quarter-million new jobs, said Snyder, and is number 7 in the nation for personal income growth. And were once again leading the nation in manufacturing job growth, said Snyder. That should be a lesson for the nation...Its not about more and bigger government. Its about creating an environment for more and better jobs. To do that, it means getting spending under control, balancing budgets, freeing entrepreneurs from unnecessary regulation and letting the free market take off and do what it does best, said Snyder. We’re seeing that in several states led by Republican governors, like Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, New Jersey, and of course in Michigan.
