Michael Browns family apparently believes if their son was white, then he would have been allowed to beat up police officers and steal their guns without any repercussions. The problem is not, however, “the system.” The problem is that their son was a thug. This isn’t a racial issue. White people, black people, brown people — all people can be thugs. It’s a character issue, a personal issue, and a responsibility issue. If they truly wanted their son to not “die in vain,” then they should be calling for an end to gangster and thug culture. They should be pushing for criminals to not be glorified and for honesty, hard work, and career ambition to be the new values held instead.
