Michael Fitzgerald was a senior member of An Garda Siochana based at Henry Street Police Station (I think Chief Superintendent level), at the time of Detective Jerry McCabes murder. He moved to 15 Chesterfield View, Castleknock, Dublin 15, not long afterwards (couldnt get much closer to Garda HQ).I gather he was transferred to Dun Laoghaire Station (Chief Superintendent), and the last station he worked in was Blanchardstown (Chief Superintendent). On 16/02/2006, Record of Public Hearings on Barron Report on Oireachtas website, there is ref to a Chief Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald, of Security & Intelligence C3 Garda Headquarters. I am trying to clarify is this the same Michael Fitzgerald (he did live in Portmarnock at some stage prior to position in Henry Street) . If anyone can confirm or shed light if this is the same man ? He took up a position as Deputy Police Commissioner of Seychelles sometime after retirement, on a 2 year contract, though he only stayed a short time in job, according to newspaper reports. Census before last he was awarded a contract or got a job with CSO . I encountered him in the Parish Centre at Beechpark , Castleknock apparently interviewing people to distribute and look after collection of census forms . It would appear , though I am open to correction, Box after Box of completed Census Forms were stored at his home at one stage.
