Michael Invites Boris to Town! I invited the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, to Northampton North where he was greeted by around a thousand cheering students at the University of Northampton. The University is going from strength to strength and I was delighted to show him around Park Campus to meet staff and students there. We visited the leather Tannery in the University’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies. We both saw how leather products are made and were shown through the leather making processes. Northampton has a proud history of leather making and the University is genuinely a world-leader in this speciality. I then had the opportunity to show Boris the new Northampton Cycle CoNNect bikes, which are based on the ‘Boris bikes’ in London and can be used around Northampton. We had a short cycle around the campus and Boris was clearly impressed. I am a fan of cycling and it is cheaper, healthier and better for the environment. Boris was then ‘mobbed’ by hundreds of student fans in the dining hall, many of whom were especially keen to take selfies with him!
