Michael Jay Purkey, 56, of Lima, Ohio died Tuesday, July 10, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted the previous day. He had been in failing health. Michael was born January 3, 1957, in Aberdeen, Maryland to Robert and Barbara Walls Purkey. He had moved to Lima in 1994 from Columbus. He was a salesman for Airgas in Lima. Michael was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gregg Purkey. Michael is survived by his wife, Janette L. McCollister Purkey whom he married September 4, 1992; his parents, Robert and Barbara Purkey of Cleveland, TN; three step children, Julie Davis and her husband, Rick, of Washington Court House, Tammy Porter of Bainbridge and Steve Baisden and his wife, Jana, of Columbus; 11 step grandchildren; a step great granddaughter; a brother, Shawn Purkey and his wife, Tammy, of Florida and three sisters, Kelley Keeling and her husband, Charles, of Cleveland TN, Robin Bassett of Virginia Beach, VA and Heather Wells and her husband, Danny, of Cincinnati. The funeral will be held Monday, July 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with the Rev. Dorotha Ross, associate pastor at the Mount Sterling First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon Monday until time of the service
