Michael Pietsch, a leader in the publishing world, gave a brilliant speech about two years ago at Squaw Valley that I liked very much. The gist of his pitch was to let the Publishers do some of the work for us writers. He is now leading Hachettes lawsuit (against Amazon) to retain higher prices on all of their books. My gut sense is that he is putting his money and clout on the line to protect the ability to receive higher prices for both authors and publishers. In my opinion that is a laudable goal, although I have no connection to the suit. The NY Times will carry a call from many writers to Amazon in tomorrows issue to resolve its dispute ...without hurting authors and without blocking or delaying the sale of books to its customers. It may be time for us to support the work that Pietsch has taken on. Please email Jeff Bezos, the ED of Amazon, and ask him to support writers. Thank you!
