Michael Scheuer, who headed the Central Intelligence Agency’s Osama bin Laden unit in the 1990s, told Fox News that CIA Director and Muslim convert John Brennan was a “bully of the first order.” Scheuer’s charges came following the explosive report that the CIA has been involved in using polygraph tests in order to keep its operatives from speaking out on what took place on the night of September 11, 2012 when the diplomatic mission in Benghazi was attacked and four Americans lost their lives. Scheuer said that the new allegations are all about “intimidation” and “persecution” and called the measures of using polygraph tests to ensure silence among the ranks of the CIA “unprecedented.” Mr. Scheuer did note that on normal occasions, people who work for the CIA do receive polygraph tests every four to five years as a security measure, but not on a monthly basis. He points out that doing such a thing on a monthly basis would “scare someone away,” presumably someone that had something to hide. “This has nothing to do with national security,” Scheuer said. “What this has to do with is intimidation and, in a sense, persecution.” “The people who risked their lives on the ground in Libya…are now being intimidated that their careers will be ruined or they will be fired if they happen to say what was going on on the ground at the time,” Scheuer continued. “I’ve known John Brennan and he’s the director there and he’s a bully of the first order. He will never say anything negative or question anyone above him, but for the people below him he is a bully of epic dimensions.” Scheuer said that Brennan has been “costing American lives since 1998.” “He has been involved in efforts to prevent the destruction of al-Qaeda, whether trying to kill him (Osama bin Laden) in the 1990s or denying us the intelligence from renditions and interrogations,” Scheuer added. “He is serving a master who has no concern for American security.” Host Tucker Carlson added that it appears the agency is spending more money to silence its operatives than it is going after the jihadists who attacked in Benghazi. “What is the point?” he asked. “What is the secret they are trying to hide and why?” While Scheuer says the left is saying that the CIA was supplying guns to Syria via Libya (and I think he got his words mixed up, it’s the right that thinks that), he also made a very good point that the “CIA does nothing without the president’s approval. It is peculiarly the instrument of the president of the United States.” “If they were sending guns to Syria,” Scheuer concludes, “it was because the president ordered them to and perhaps he hadn’t told the Congress or anyone else about it.” Well that part is all speculation at this point for sure, but does make a lot of sense. I disagree that Obama would have told Congress about any of this though. Remember how he thumbed his nose at Congress via former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta indicating that the Obama administration looks more towards international coalitions than the Constitution of the United States when it comes to aiding and invading countries like Libya? What makes one wonder about Mr. Scheuer is his history on the subject of terrorism and specifically his book “Imperial Hubris,” which was first published following his leaving the CIA in 2004. That doesn’t make what he is saying here false, but some of his statements and history have been examined here.
