Michael Shermer debates Fr. Lucas Laborde at Oregon State - TopicsExpress

Michael Shermer debates Fr. Lucas Laborde at Oregon State University on the subject, Does God Exist. I was looking forward to this one. But heres the thing (and I grow tired of having to bring this up): Why is a major university prepared to host (and re-broadcast) an important and publicized event, only to decide that the best way to document the occasion is to park a single, locked-off camera so far away that the speakers are almost unrecognizable? Take one look at the frame and ask yourself, What/Who is the subject? The wood podium itself? The flown projector? The red curtains? The back of the head of the guy in the hoodie? The apple logo on the silver laptop? Not one camera was dedicated to the actual event speakers. No close-ups. No opportunities to develop a connection to the video viewers. No eyes, faces, expressions and gestures beyond what might be seen from the cheap seats. And for those wondering if OSU didnt have a video department, I must remind you that, here in the year 2015, its possible to record 3K quality on a Samsung CELL PHONE. What a wasted opportunity for the vast internet audience. Once again, educational institutions remind us that they know a shit-ton about data, but they have worlds to learn about storytelling. Just call me, for Petes sake. Ill shoot the damn thing. Done venting. Thx.
