Michele Loftis is best remembered at Commonwheel for “Smiles Unlimited” sculptures. She became a member of Commonwheel in 1978 when she was creating sculptures from flour, salt and water dough. Michele says, “The support and encouragement I received from other members of the group helped me to become the artist I am today.”, She left Commonwheel in 1994 to became a member of Filthy Wilmas in Manitou. A few years later she took on the ownership of that gallery. In 2007 the location and name of the gallery changed to become the Green Horse Gallery. She is partners with other past Commonwheel members, Darlene Hardie, Ken & Tina Riesterer, who are also in this show, her son and a couple of other artists. The sculptures she creates now are primarily raku fired, though she still makes a few of the hand painted whimsical pieces very similar to what she was doing during her Commonwheel days! Green Horse Gallery participates in 3rd Friday Art Walk in Manitou Springs. Next one will be on May 15th.
