Michelle Obama told a fun little story that got a good laugh from everyone involved when she was on The Late Show in 2012. The story was about an old woman who saw Mrs. Obama not as FLOTUS, but as an approachable taller woman who could help her reach an item on a shelf. Apparently in the past couple years, the story has taken on a new life. Per a recent interview, the story is now about how black people are automatically, although sometimes subconsciously seen as subservient. Its interesting how the narrative has evolved to fit into the current political climate. To say the Obamas have done anything to lessen racial tensions is naive. Weve reached a point where the concept that the Obamas have actually widened any racial divide is quite plausible.
