Michelle shared...Im facing a possible RBKA following 7 ankle surgeries including a fusion in 2009 and an ankle replacement in 2012. None of my surgeries have relieved my pain, and I dont have the function I need do the kind of job Id like. Im a registered nurse and have to work a management desk job as I cannot be on my feet for long periods. I have a subtalar fusion and a failing Salto Talaris implant. The talus and tibia continue to fracture following several surgeries to repair them, and my two choices are amputation or a risky revision, new implant, and several pins and rods added to the talus and tibia for stability. I am leaning towards the amputation. Prior to my injury and until recently, I had been very active. I even did a triathlon with my fusion. Now, I cant even swim or ride a bike. My weight gain and pain are depressing me! Im wondering if anyone out there can share their story? I dont want to go into amputation without feeling like I explored every option completely. Thanks!
