Mick Lowe takes a bunch of lavender hill kids from capetown surfing Lavender hill is one of the communities in Cape Town where predominantly mixed race families live- over here they are labelled as coloured. The community has a reputation for being very dangerous and there is extreme violence and trauma happenning regularly. Statistics have shown that an average woman living in one of these communities will experience 23 traumatic events per year. An average australian or American woman will experience four traumatic events in their lifetime. Asking the kids what scares you the answer will be when they start shooting (which is quite often) and is gang related! When I was their age I was scared of climbing up the slide because it was too high or scared of huntsman spiders! Anyway these gorgeous kids (some of them street kids) came surfing for the first time and it was so beautiful They were so excited This gives them access to a new perception of what is possible for Themself and access to an outlet so that they have a place for self expression, self love and nurture and peace- the ocean!! The ocean is the mother- complete feminine energy and each wave is a rebirth Mick lowe is just doing the most incredible job over here- his name is mentioned very regularly by the coaches that he is mentoring- they say he has taught them the power of gratitude and appreciation, has helped them open their hearts and heal and has helped them believe in themselves...
