Micoud Infant School gets New Structure The Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport will on Sunday July 6th, 2014 officially hand over a two and a half-storey structure to the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour, to house the Micoud Infant School. The structure that previously housed the Micoud Infant School was a 100-year-old Catholic Church building, which was deemed unfavourable for satisfactory school operations, having experienced major structural damages over the years. In 2012,a decision was taken by government to evacuate the one hundred and sixty-four (164) pupils from the old structure and be temporarily housed in the Micoud Multi-purpose Centre, pending the erection of a new structure, as an extension to the Micoud Primary School. The new two and a half-storey structure, is fitted with five classrooms on the first floor, five classrooms on the ground floor and toilet facilities at the basement. The new structure, which was constructed at a cost of EC $2.6 Million, will accommodate a minimum of two hundred and fifty (250) students—eighty-six (86) more than its previous capacity. The extension, which commenced in May of 2013 benefited the south of the island economically, since most of the materials and other supplies bought for its construction were procured from southern suppliers. Though originally set for completion in December of 2013, the construction of the extension experienced delays mainly because of the late shipment of some necessary supplies, additional works undertaken and the passage of the Christmas Eve trough of December 2013. The Handing over-ceremony will take place on the grounds of the Micoud Primary School from 2:45 pm and will see addresses delivered by Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport Hon. Philip J Pierre, Minister for Education, Human Resource Development and Labour Hon. Robert Lewis and Parliamentary Representative for Micoud North Hon. Gale Rigobert.
