Micro Chip Clinic September is right around the corner and it will be National Disaster Awareness month. We are all well aware just how vulnerable this are is. So, do you have a disaster plan? What about one for your pet? .One of the most important things you can do for your pet is microchipping and to making sure the chip is registered with the correct information. Lanoka Oaks Veterinary Center is offering a Microchip clinic. The cost is $37.30 and this includes implantation and a lifetime registration (we will even register the chip for you). It is open to all dogs and cats. The only requirement is that pets over 6 months must provide proof of Rabies vaccination. So, is your pet chipped? Why not? If they are, is the chip registered? The following are some facts that might convince you that this is a necessity: • Up to 8 million animals end up in shelters every year. Unfortunately, only 15-20% of dogs and less than 2% of cats are ever reclaimed by their owners. • One out of every three pets gets lost at some point. • In only 10 percent of cases do owners find their unidentified pet. • It could keep your lost pet alive. Shelters only have so much room and your pet could be euthanized if not adopted or reclaimed • It proves you are your pet’s owner. If a pet is stolen or lost, this is your only legal proof. • The American Humane Association estimates over 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the U.S. every year. • Every two seconds a family companion is lost. • The return-to-owner rate for microchipped dogs was over 52 percent (a 238 percent increase over non-chipped dogs) • The return-to-owner rate for microchipped cats was dramatically higher at over 38 percent (more than 2000 percent better than the 2% of non-chipped cats). • Only 58 percent of the microchipped animals’ microchips had been registered in a database with their pet parent’s contact information. • Most of the microchips are active for at least 25 years
