Midday Reflections (since the bombing coverage is dominating my television) - in high school, I remember I got into a lot of trouble (nearly suspended) for drawing the likeness of the Dalai Lama as an ice cream cone for a project in my theology class. My thought process was ice cream brings people joy and the Dalai Lama does the same..in hindsight I see the error in this lol. I was told it was inappropriate to depict the holy figure of another religion in such a way that could be interpreted as demeaning and/or offensive by someone else. I had to redo my project and I think write about why it was wrong....I dont want to debate terror attacks (because there is no debate), but we could stand to have a conversation about free speech and when/where it crosses the line. Shoutout to Mercy High School for raising my consciousness.
