Midnight Jukebox...The thing I love most about Florida is that I was scared to death when I first moved here. There are a LOT of things that can kill you in this state. It doesnt matter if youre on land, in fresh water, brackish water, or salt water, at any given time within 1 mile or less of where you stand, it is highly likely something lurks that is capable of killing you. There really isnt another place like that in the continental US. So what did I do? I built a house right where a lot of them reside close by. The first few years I lived here I crash course studied in grand detail the wildlife of Florida, and I now have a massive respect for the many animals that call this state home. Nothing has tried to kill me yet. Nowadays, Im much more afraid of the people than the critters. Ive squared off against a diamondback just me and a garden hoe, and him capable of taking me out if he desired, and he slithered away. I learned something from that. That story I saw about opening a bear hunting season just really hits my heart. Its so wrong on a million different levels. Its not mans purpose. We are here to protect and care for them.
