Twenty years after Reagans Evil Empire speech over the shooting-down of JAL Flight 007, it turns out the CIA had been up to its old tricks, was eyebrow-deep in shit, remained in full denial mode. More than one evil empire was responsible. It took ninety years, the development of some amazing deepsea salvage gear, & the invention of a brand-new discipline (Forensic Metallurgy) to explain why the Titanic sank so quickly. Turns out the owners, to save a few hundred thousand pounds, had insisted the bullkheads be built to only half their design height, and that cast-iron rivets be substituted for steel in assembling the hull. Titanic was not sliced open like a can, as wed always been told; travelling much too fast, she took one immense blow & fell apart. Cast iron has nowhere near the lateral strength of steel. Money is almost always at the root of such awful events. Someones making it, someones saving it, someones trying to steal it. The initial cause may appear to be terrorism, or tribal rage, or religious fervour. But these factors can all be traced back to money. A final point. Whenever venal trash like Abbott, Cameron et al start pointing the finger of blame & talking tough, the seasoned observer should start looking in the opposite direction. These spivs cant tell the truth about things that dont matter - why then should we trust their account of things that do?
