Miguel Cotto may spar Manny Pacquiao and fight Sergio Martinez, says Freddie Roach Exclusive interview with Freddie Roach who outlines his plans for the rejuvenated fighter FREDDIE ROACH could not have been more pleased with his newest charge, Miguel Cotto, who stopped Delvin Rodriguez in some style at the weekend. “He fought a terrific fight, we had a great camp and he fought exactly how he was supposed to.” Cotto may spar his former conqueror and new gym-mate Manny Pacquiao for future fights but Roach explained, “They’re good friends now, so I’m not sure how hard they’ll go.” Following the Rodriguez fight, there was some debate as to whether Cotto should have another small step up before looking for a major contest, the idea being to give the Puerto Rican the rounds Delvin was able to provide. Roach dismisses the thought and has his sights firmly set on one potential oppoonent in particular. “I don’t believe in warm ups,” Roach told Boxing News. “He’s a veteran, he puts the hard work in and that’s what made the Rodriguez fight look easy. I’d like Sergio Martinez straight away before someone else gets him. It’s a great fight and I believe Martinez would be the perfect opponent. There’s also the attraction of Miguel becoming the first Puerto Rican to win world titles at four weights. Sergio is always saying he can still make 154 but we could do a catchweight of say 158lbs and I’d be more than happy with that match.” Liverpudlian light-middle Liam Vaughan is another Wild Card gym resident and he flew to the Philippinnes with Roach earlier this week to spar Pacquiao ahead of his November 23 bout with Brandon Rios. Roach says the 8-1 (2) Brit boxes like pressure-fighter Rios. boxingnewsonline.net/latest/feature/miguel-cotto-may-spar-manny-pacquiao-and-fight-sergio-martinez-says-freddie-roach
