Mika Fourie 10:43am Dec 6 Mr. Price werknemers mag NIE Afrikaans met kliente praat nie. Please share this. Mr Price is racist and discriminates against Afrikaans speaking customers. I have posted links on the Mr Price LinkedIn page which link back to this page and have asked for a response but each time my post just gets deleted. Please share this as I would love a response from them. On Friday 28 November 2014 I went in to Mr. Price Grahamstown to purchase some items. While standing in the row to pay, I noticed that the two cashiers on duty were speaking Afrikaans to each other. Wanting to be polite, when it was my turn to pay, I addressed the young lady helping me in Afrikaans. She responded in English. When I asked her why she replied in English, she informed me that its company policy to not speak Afrikaans to customers. I was quite shocked by this especially in light of an article I had recently read: https://facebook/hendrik.duplessis2/posts/10203534975838648 which seems to have gone mildly viral on some social media. I then asked the young lady if she was permitted to address customers in Xhosa. She replied yes. Venda? Yes. Zulu? Yes. Seswati? Yes. Sotho? Yes. Afrikaans? No. Thinking I had perhaps heard incorrectly, I again asked her and had the presence of mind to video this part of the conversation. (The video can be viewed below.) At this point the young lady was becoming impatient with me and her colleague responded as she clearly thought I was dim witted asking her the same question repeatedly! Although I speak mostly English because of where I live, I am proudly Afrikaans and have to say that this amounts to blatant discrimination on the part of Mr. Price. I will not support Mr Price in future and call on all Afrikaans speaking customers to take their business elsewhere. Afrikaans is clearly seen as being bad by this company so I ask you to take your bad Afrikaans money which this racist, discriminatory store is happy to take from you and go and spend it elsewhere. It’s time we stop supporting bad decisions, bad ideas, bad companies (was a good band that - Bad Company ) and bad plans with our bad Afrikaans money. Go spend it where they are happy to speak Afrikaans to you. And, Mr Price, just in case you haven’t noticed, extreme aplogetics - which it seems your company ethos subscribes to, is BAD! Why? Because it’s just another form of racism Update to this: I have posted a backlink to this on the Mr Price LinkedIn page twice and each time my post is deleted without any comment from them - see the picture attached. Why Mr Price? Why do you not want people to see the post and why do you not respond transparently? https://facebook/video.php?v=748881558538450 Please share this.
