Mike Cooper is a little known English-born guitarist-singer who released a trio of early 1970s iconoclastic records: Trout Steel (1970), Places I Know (1971), and The Machine Gun Co. (1972). At first glance they may sound folk-ish, as Cooper came from the Pentangle - Fairport Convention scene, and there are similarities to Bert Jansch, Roy Harper, Richard Thompson, Tim Buckley. But Cooper was so much more; he incorporated experimental free improv, eastern modalities, jazz, and on. But more than that, he was a terrific songwriter, with very much his own style and unique voice. I hope a few others out there will come to enjoy his music as well.
