Mike Grimm resigns as of Jan-5, 2015. What can I say. The Republican leadership insists on integrity. Too bad the Democrats dont. (Remember Charles Rangle?) Grimms resignation will spark a competitive special election for his seat, and potential contenders have already begun lining up. Former Democratic Rep. Michael McMahon, who narrowly lost to Grimm in 2010, has reportedly expressed interest in a bid for his old seat. Republican candidates, according to the Daily News, could include Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis and state Sen. Andrew Lanza. The House District includes Staten Island and Bay Ridge Brooklyn, near the other side of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Michael McMahon was the Democrat & former House Rep for this district. District Attorney Daniel Donovan should be a total loser after his failure to get an indictment of Officer Daniel Pantaleo for the wrongful death of Eric Garner. Lots of black Democrats in this district and I dont see even one voting for him. Both Malliotakis & Lanza are lifetime Staten Island residents. Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis is not my Assembly district, but one near by. She is the first Hispanic-American to win elected office to any district that encompasses Staten Island. She is one of the first two Greek-American women elected to office in New York. She is a reasonable candidate. State Senator Andrew Lanza is my State Senator. He is a reasonable candidate. Per Wikipedia: Andrew Joseph Lanza (born March 12, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician and is serving as a member of the New York State Senate, representing the 24th District which encompasses most of Staten Island. Lanza was elected State Senator in the November 2006 election. He is a former member of the New York City Council.
