Mike James, MD of Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), has been re-elected chairman of the Independent International Organisation for Certification (IIOC) for a second term. IIOC consists of 10 of the world’s leading certification bodies: ABS, BSI, Bureau Veritas, DEKRA, DNV, Intertek, LRQA, SAI Global, SGS and TÜV SÜD. The organisation’s main focus areas for 2013 are the revision of key ISO management system standards, and promoting the value of accredited certification into both established and developing markets and sectors worldwide. IIOC chief executive, Marcus Long, explains that the organisation’s commitment to robust accredited certification is highlighted through managing director level involvement on the IIOC board and senior technical expertise on the IIOC technical committee, which aims to help shape the standards and schemes that underpin the certification industry. The IIOC technical committee undertakes technical representation work with the International Organisation for Standardisation, the International Accreditation Forum, the International Aerospace Quality Group, the European Aerospace Quality Group, the European Co-operation for Accreditation, and the Pacific Accreditation Co-operation as well as collaboration at a senior level with a variety of these organisations.
