Mike Magill Indianapolis 1958 in the Dayton Steel Foundry Special. This beautiful Kurtis-Kraft 500 G Offenhauser was built in 1957. It was also driven in the 1957 500 by Mike Magill who finished 24th after a wreck in turn four. In 1958 George Walther Jr. entered the car for European racing star and world champion Juan Fangio. After several mechanical issues Fangio realized the car could not win so he abandoned his effort. The previous years driver Magill jumped into the cockpit flannel shirt and all and qualified the car 31st. The car was damaged in the first lap meele but he was able to continue on. Because of the damage from the big tangle at the start he suffered from long pit stops during the race and was several laps behind the leaders, but he brought the car home 17th at 136 laps running.
