Mike McCabe comments: Judge Randa strikes again. A national campaign finance law expert expects this ruling will be appealed because it contradicts U.S. Supreme Court decisions about the legality of such coordination and the 7th Circuit federal appeals court will reverse it. He also says Randa refuses to accept what he was told — that the law is not as he wishes it were. He keeps trying to limit the application of the law in a way that has never been required by the Supreme Court. The court has never said it is unconstitutional ... when you’re dealing with coordinated activity.” Time will tell. All I know is that if Randas decision somehow stands, all the political money in Wisconsin could be #darkmoney. If Randas ruling stands, goodbye transparency and hello shadow campaigns. Candidates would be able to steer big donors to groups that can keep their contributions anonymous, and then the candidates could plot strategy and coordinate campaign advertising with those groups. Evidence of who is paying to put politicians in office would vanish from public view.
