Mike Nesmiths show at the City Winery was one of the best Ive seen this year. He stuck with singing only songs he had written, avoiding the Monkees staples. He talked about each song or group of songs, giving the audience the larger story around each of the tunes. And the audience loved it. Highlight of the concert for me; CRUISIN, which the crowd really got into. After the show, I got to meet Nez, and get a few things autographed. Im happy to report that hes a Neil Gaiman fan. Here are two of the items I came away with (the second, with thanks to Jennifer Adams Kelley, as we were only allowed one Monkees item per fan). Ive been working on these two for more than a decade, and theyre completed.
