Mike and I, together with Tor and Mel, would like to thank - TopicsExpress

Mike and I, together with Tor and Mel, would like to thank everyone who has sent us so many wonderful messages, photos, and videos of our beautiful Fishermans Friend. There are just too many to reply to personally, so we hope you will accept our sincere thanks for your support at this very sad time. We appreciate that everyone wants to understand what happened to our beautiful boy, and why he was taken so suddenly, but rest easy - he was not in pain. He had a mild colic attack on Wednesday, so mild in fact, that you wouldnt really know except that he hadnt eaten all his breakfast, and lay down for a few minutes in the middle of the day. We immediately took him to the Vet for observation and diagnostics, never realising that he wouldnt be coming home with us. He was found to have a displacement of his caecum which we hoped to correct with the administration of fluids, so he stayed at the Vet overnight for treatment. However he had a more severe colic attack a few hours later, so underwent a colic operation to (hopefully) correct the displacement. Tragically, it was discovered he had a 5kg Enterolith lodged in a narrow part of his intestine, and despite desperate efforts by the Vets, it could not be removed, and he was humanely euthanised. Fish has been carrying this foreign body around inside him for many, many years, and true to his amazing stoic temperament, never ever showed that there was a problem. He continued to dance around the dressage arena until he was 17 years old. We would like to sincerely thank Nathan, Kylie and their wonderful team, who worked so hard to try and save our beautiful Fish - but it was not possible. He is now buried in our front garden surrounded by the mare and foal paddocks, and we will erect a memorial there for him in his final resting place. A true champion to the end - Fishermans Friend - our Friend - Rest In Peace Fishie xx
