Mild Head Injury When we talk about the brain we must think about - TopicsExpress

Mild Head Injury When we talk about the brain we must think about the skull being a finite container, it will not expand. So if the brain swells or bleeding was to occur inside the skull then the blood will put pressure on the brain. This will cause the brain to become compressed and will cause the Inter cranial Pressure (ICP) to increase. This will cause the brain to become damaged or alter the brains function. The pressure can actually cause the brain to herniate and the patient will die. Signs and Symptoms Mild Head Injury • Patient will have a brief change in their level of responsiveness • Patient may exhibit short term amnesia • Your patient may tell you that they are seeing “stars” or may have blurred vision • May have a feeling of nausea or may even vomit • May have a headache, may seem to be lethargic or even dizzy Treatment Monitor your patient for developing signs, let your patient rest. Wake them up every couple of hours and check their LOR
