Mile 88 Kinosao-Coop Point Both teams made it to Kinosao and the dogs ate really well. There were lots of red suckers that were given to us by local trapper-fisherman Otto Olsen, so I fed the dogs this fish. We put the dogs away after feeding for supper. Otto’s wife Shirley told us that we needed to hurry because the food was warm. Warm food is so energizing when you play outside all day. The town opened up the school for us and gave us a cheering welcome into the community. They had a huge meal and I think all of us over ate. There were stories and laughs, teasing and good visiting taking place. All the people were so generous and so willing to share. I have to say, the highlight of the trip is visiting with the people and just getting to know others. Nobody really worried about computers, the students were all in good spirits and Laz was given a wife and this was an honour. This was a common practice, somewhat of an arranged marriage to create community, family and lifelong friendships between neighboring communities. There is something more to this as well, it was also done to learn off of each other and to share technologies and skills. It was regularly practiced not so long ago and it is obvious we still carry on this method of learning, caring and growing in knowledge. He was always saying he had girlfriends to the rest of the students and one of the local trappers liked him so much that he gave his daughter to him. He didn’t know what to do and had to flee. He’s a great sport and becoming a wonderful dogman.
