Military Alone Cannot Stop Insurgency In Nigeria – Rawlings A former President of Ghana, Jerry Rawlings, has warned Nigeria over the use of military to counter the insurgency being perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect. Rawlings told the BBC on Monday that the military alone could not stop the insurgency being perpetrated by the sect. Mr Rawlings also expressed regrets at the security situation in Nigeria and warned that the nation must resist the temptation of seeking the assistance of foreign powers in solving its problems. Nigeria’s military has been trying to contain the insurgency in the north east perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect. The sect has been terrorising villages in the north eastern part of Nigeria sing 2009. Three of the north eastern states are under state of emergency rule declared by President Goodluck Jonathan close to one year ago in a bid to restore law and order in the state. Several schools and churches have been destroyed by members of the sect, who have in a recent attack on Chibok, a community in Borno State, abducted over 200 girls from a Government Girls Secondary School. The sect members also claimed responsibility for the Nyanya Motor Park bomb blast that occurred on April 14, leaving at least 75 persons dead and over 220 injured.
