Military Service USN/USAAF I have had the honor of serving this country for 35 years as an enlisted and commissioned sailor, as well as a civilian—what I like to call a plain clothes sailor. I have sworn to defend this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. In addition to my USN service, I also serve as a historian and webmaster for the 486th Heavy Bombardment Group, of the 3rd Air Division, 8th Army Air Force, US Strategic Air Forces Europe. This group flew 191 strategic and tactical missions against enemy targets from May 1944, through April 1945. During my time with the 486th, I have made contributions to two documentaries, 1/2 dozen books, written in English, German and Slovak. I have assisted archeologists and researchers in England, France, German, The Slovak Republic and Poland. In 2003 I attended a memorial to seven airmen murdered on the German island of Borkum; a very moving, but proud moment for me. I have also assisted with the care of other American memorials in Europe. Citizens of Belgium have adopted graves of fallen members of the 486th, and came to me for information regarding the airmen whose grave they are caring for. My work has allowed them to know their airmen better, and, when possible, put a face to a name. Their devotion to these fallen airmen—men they do not know, men who fell in a war fought before their time—is incredibly moving. And Im proud to have helped. There is a documentary about these grave caregivers and the trailer can be found here: youtube/watch?v=LOgwp8XfUQM
