Military Wall Of Honor Sgt. William D. Brown III / Special to the Citizen-Times A solider from Franklin who died in Afghanistan last week was a health care specialist who had been in Afghanistan since July. Sgt. William D. Brown III, 44, was part of the 10th Mountain Division, stationed at Fort Polk, La., with the 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team. Brown died in Gamberi, Afghanistan, Thursday in a “non-combat related incident,” according to a news release from the military. The release says Brown joined the Army in May 2010. He was deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in July. Brown’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and a Certificate of Achievement, the release states.
