Millbrook man arrested after high speed chase through Elmore County By Sarah Morrison Stephens Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson confirmed that a construction truck stolen yesterday on Rose Hill Road in Millbrook is the vehicle involved in a high-speed pursuit beginning in Montgomery Friday and ending just outside Wetumpka City limits a short time later. Matthew David Bailey, 29, of Millbrook was the alleged driver of that vehicle. As of now, formal charges are unknown, but could include theft of a vehicle, among many others. The truck was spotted in Montgomery Friday and when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Bailey allegedly fled at a high rate of speed. The chase began north of I-85 then Bailey reportedly exited at the Tallassee exit. At some point, Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said spike strips were deployed, shredding three of the four tires on the construction truck, which had yellow lights flashing. Several officers units were damaged in the pursuit, which finally ended just outside of Wetumpka city limits. Other than the truck being stolen here in Millbrook, my officers were not involved in the pursuit, which did not go through Millbrook, Johnson said. Fortunately, Elmore County deputies were able to end this pursuit without anyone being hurt or killed, to their credit. Franklin, in speaking with Art Parker with the Millbrook Independent, said Bailey told officers he had been using meth for many years and didnt realize what he was doing. We will update when formal charges are known.
