Millions have claimed to have been at Woodstock. I get it. But I cant imagine anyone lying about being at Cal Jam. It was one day before my 16th birthday and I was there. Being a young guitarist, I was stoked to see Sabbath & Deep Purple - in their prime! The traffic was insane. People were parking on the freeway and just abandoning their cars. My best friend and I parked in a vineyard and walked 3 miles to get there - hours after it started. Unfortunately, it was hot, miserable and food, drink and bathrooms were almost nonexistent. No place to sit. Just had to stand in the 90 degree sun. We suffered through Black Oak Arkansas from a half mile away and wed had enough. We trudged back to the car and made the long trek home. Thousands of cars had been towed and people were still trying to get home the following day. Concerts with 200,000 plus are exercises in misery. If Im going to sit in my own feces - or worse - someone elses - Jimi Hendrix better be playing with his teeth.
