Milt Johns says the DOJ became involved in the 12th HS because a citizen complained. He says he doesnt know the persons motive. The DOJ seemed to clearly undunderstand the motive. Our Schools did not contact the DOJ but we are thankful for the person/persons that did. You see the DOJ was contacted because the original recommendations were in violaton of the law. It took a largely minority community and cut it out of the 12th hs. Queensdale and the smaller neighborhoods were being bussed to O.P., passing neighborhoods that would have attended the 12th. This will not happen now. Thank you to the citizen/citizens that contacted the DOJ. To Milt Johns -as an attorney we would expect you to understand the law and the DOJs findings. What they found was a violation of the law. That is why they responded to the complain. Has the chair you should have been able to recognize the violation without the DOJ investigation. Citizens stood in front of the board and told you they were concerned about the equity of those boundaries. You, Milt Johns, ignored them. To River Falls and Coventry Glen - you have our empathy. There are 3 or four schools closer to your communities than O.P., your points are valid but not more so than Queensdale and the other communities that were being cut out in the other plans. Has your community considered requesting being moved to Hylton, Woodbridge or Garfield HS? To Lillie Jessie - we do not need more specialty programs at the 12th hs so these two neighborhoods can get out of going to O.P., they can transfer to Woodbridge, Garfield, Hylton, Forest Patk, Freedom or even Potomac HS.
