Milwaukee Streetcar: #YESorNO? Proponents of the Milwaukee - TopicsExpress

Milwaukee Streetcar: #YESorNO? Proponents of the Milwaukee Streetcar include Mayor Tom Barrett, the Downtown Business Improvement District #21, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Milwaukee Business Journal; they claim the streetcar will bring increased investment, development, retail sales and jobs along the streetcar route. The first leg of the system (which would not travel down popular streets such as Water or Brady nor run to the Summerfest grounds) has a current price tag of $123.9 million. Construction costs are to be covered by a mix of federal grants (some of which are not yet approved) and TIF (tax increment financing) districts. Those against the Streetcar include Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan, who has repeatedly asked for a public referendum to gauge public support.; it does not appear there will be such a referendum. Opponents argue that the city already has a multitude of alternative transportation options including city buses, cabs, hotel/establishment shuttles, bicycles (Bublr Bikes) and more. So, we ask you for a YES or NO answer to the following Question: Do you support the proposed Milwaukee Streetcar? Further, feel free to share your opinions for or against the Streetcar but PLEASE keep the comments friendly (no personal attacks) for surely we all have the best interest of our community at heart. Thanks! P.S. The proposed Streetcar line does not run past Sobelmans...but dont let that influence your opinion! :)
