Mindanao Trade Expo 2013 Design Competition Rules and Mechanics I. OBJECTIVE: The Design Competition aims to showcase the student’s talents and show their potentials in creating and designing a marketable home accents and fashion accessories by the use of more eco-friendly, natural, recycled materials and processes while promoting Mindanao culture and traditions. II. COMPETITION GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS: A. Product Category 1. Costume Jewelry 1.1 Indigenous 2.1 Upcycle 2. Home accents 1.1 Indigenous 2.1 Upcycle B. Materials components 1. Indigenous – this promotes the use of natural and indigenous Mindanao homegrown materials as the main component 2. Upcycle – this elevates the use of discarded and old materials to create a design with commercial campaign as the main component C. Qualification: 1. Must be a bonafide college student preferably entrolled in a design related course. 2. Must accomplish and submit application form together with photocopy of school identification card for the school year 2013 – 2014 or a certification issued by school registrar on or before August 8, 2013. D. Mechanics 1. Costume Jewelry 1.1 Must use single material for the outer layer except for the structure and base 2.1 Must use at least 80% indigenous materials 3.1 Must present 3 collections ( 2 prepared entry and 1 to be done on the spot for 2 hours) 4.1 Must bring own materials to make the 3rd entry on the spot 5.1 Product collections must either be a necklace, earring, bracelet or a bangle 6.1 All entries must be mounted in a styro foam. The Organizer will provide a panel wall for the display of entry. 2. Home accents 1.1 Must use single material for the outer layer except for the structure and base 1.1 Product dimension must 6 x 6 x 12 inches 2.1 The organizer will provide an area for the display of entry E. Competition Entry 1. All entries submitted, will become property of MTEFI and automatically contents office to use the following free of charge ; 1.1 Photos of entry product for the printed promo collaterals, internet and other campaign materials for the show or any event organized by the MTEFI. 2.1 Display of his/her work during the show or any event organized by the MTEFI. F. Presentation 1. Each student is given 3mins to defend his/her design verbally (in front of the panel of Judges) on the following; 1.1 Design concepts and inspiration 2.1 Materials used 3.1 Process applied 4.1 Functionality G. Panel of Judges 1. Judges and MTEFI have the right not to announce a winner if entries do not meet their standards and qualifications. 2. The decision of the judges and the MTEFI is final. No appeals will be entertained. III. CRITERIA Entries will be judged and shall be evaluated based on the following criteria: 1. Relevance to the Theme 20% 2. Originality 20% 3. Oral Presentation 20% 4. Visual Impact 40% Technique and Craftsmanship 20% Creative use of Materials 10% Commercial Appeal 10% Total 100%
