Mine is a life of contrasts with my Monday blog offering a well done southern Italian red, and today some of the most celebrated wines in the world, albeit in miniscule amounts. There is not much of any, and since these come in six packs a case is a six pack meaning a 10% discount. And so… I have acquired both the Elio Altare 2011 Langhe Alborino, and the 2011 Elio Altare LaVilla. I have included Antonio Galloni’s reviews as he was Parker’s go to Italian guy for years and I think he knows his stuff. As well, many of you met Sylvia Altare at our Piedmont dinner a few years ago so you know from where I am coming in my enthusiasm for these wines. 2011 Elio Altare La Villa: 60% Larigi Barbera and 40% Arborina Nebbiolo, shows the wisdom of blending these two wines. The 2011 has the aromatic lift and perfume of Nebbiolo and the plump fruit of Barbera, a combination that works beautifully in yielding a wine that is both approachable and structured. 96 points 2011 Elio Altare Arborina: Altares 2011 Langhe Arborina (Nebbiolo) is gorgeous in this vintage. Freshly cut flowers, spices, mint and licorice jump from the glass in a wonderfully nuanced, detailed wine. Nebbiolo seems to have handled the unique challenges of the vintage better than Barbera. With a little bit of time in the glass the 2011 opens up beautifully. Sweet floral and spiced notes flow through to the striking, layered finish. 97 points The cost for either is $100 the bottle, with a six pack (mixed or matched) being $540. 2012 Domaine Dujac Pre-Order I am pleased to announce that I have sourced some of the great red 2012 Burgundies of Domaine Dujac. Let me know soon as orders will be placed next week for arrival in a few months. If you know Burgundy - how great it can be, and how little there is of it- then you understand why this is impressive. Very small amounts available!! Bonnes Mare Grand Cru $400 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru $290 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru $365 Clos St. Denis Grand Cru $365 Gevrey-Chambertin aux Combettes 1er Cru $245 Vosne Romanee Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru $260 Chambolle Musigny $95 Morey St. Denis $95
