Mine wasnt all that great, but I enjoy reading yours! Madison spoke in a more purely classical vein when he rose on June 20, 1788, to defend the new Constitution in the debates at the Virginia ratifying convention: I go on this great republican principle, that the people will have virtue and intelligence to select men of virtue and wisdom. The next sentence makes it worth it, I guess. Is there no virtue among us? The Spirit of Modern Republicanism: The Moral Vision of the American Founders and the Philosophy of Locke by Thomas Pangle.
