Mineral Hunt in Greenwood Maine Lewiston Me. The Stanton Bird Club is sponsoring a trip to Greenwood Maine to hunt for minerals at the Tamminen Mine on Saturday July 13th. Tamminen is an open pit mine about 32 miles from Lewiston. The group will carpool from the Promenade Mall parking lot in front of Staples leaving at 7am and returning at noon. It is advised to wear long pants and sneakers or boots and bring drinking water and a snack. You might also bring hand tools and a bucket. The minerals you will find are Mica, Quartz, Granite and Feldspar. You might uncover clear and smoky quartz ,tourmaline, beryl, cookeite, and other colorful minerals.
